Our role is to provide search-and-rescue services covering upper North East Solway, Inland rivers and lochs.

Nith Inshore Rescue

Based in Glencaple, 5 miles south of Dumfries in south-west Scotland, on the estuary of the River Nith close to where it joins the Solway Firth.

Our aim is to protect life and property under threat from the sea, inland water, flooding and other water related incidents in the Upper Solway and surrounding area.

To this end Nith Inshore Rescue maintains craft and equipment which are deployed, when required to do so, by the HM Coastguard Rescue Co-ordination Centre.

Nith Inshore Rescue is proud to be an HM Coastguard Declared Facility.
We also work closely with a range of partners including Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service, RNLI, and the local Moffat & Galloway Mountain Rescue Teams.

Our service is delivered through the training and development of a highly committed cross-generational team of voluntary lifeboat crew We are a Registered Charity (number SC022223), one of many independent lifeboats around the coast of Britain who are not part of the RNLI.

All lifeboats, whether RNLI or independent, come under the control of the Coastguard and we all carry out the same front-line search and rescue duties.

New Launch Tractor Boosts Rescue Capability

We’re proud to announce the arrival of our new launch tractor, supplied by Lloyd Ltd. This vital piece of equipment will enhance our ability to launch and recover our rescue boats swiftly and safely in all conditions. We’re incredibly grateful to Lloyd Ltd. for their support in helping us continue our life-saving work along the Solway Coast.
