Call-outs

line graph showing last 8 years' call-outs

The number of incidents we are called to deal with varies enormously from year to year, with 2009 just about the quietest on record. Examples of incidents include boats and jetskis with engine failure, people in the water (or threatening to enter the water) in Dumfries or Annan, occasional holidaymakers and others getting cut off by the fast-flowing Solway tides, and helping with missing person searches. We were called away to Carlisle a few winters ago to help rescue flood victims from their houses.

Ours is a rural area and farm animals are valuable, so we have rescued our fair share of cows, sheep, horses and dogs. Between call-outs, the crew are kept busy with rigorous training to maintain their skills. More on training ...
