Welcome to Nith Inshore Rescue
Nith
Inshore Rescue is an independent lifeboat
serving the
Dumfries area.
We are based in Glencaple, 5 miles south of Dumfries in south west Scotland, on the estuary of the River Nith close to where it joins the Solway Firth.
Our role is to provide a voluntary search-and-rescue service covering the estuary of the River Nith, together with other rivers and lochs in the area. In recent years we have attended incidents as far afield as Moffat and Thornhill in Dumfriesshire, Carlisle in Cumbria and Loch Ken in Kirkcudbrightshire. More about our operational area here.
The crew are all unpaid volunteers, on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.
We are a Registered Charity (number SC022223), one of many independent lifeboats around the coast of Britain who are not part of the RNLI.
All lifeboats, whether RNLI or independent, come under the control of the Coastguard and we all carry out the same front-line search-and-rescue duties.
